AFC Toronto Jersey Design
Erika was the featured illustrator who designed the inaugural away jersey for Toronto’s first ever professional women’s soccer team: AFC Toronto (part of the first ever Canada women’s pro soccer league, Northern Super League).
ABOUT THE DESIGN: I wanted the design to be a meaningful yet playful approach to capturing the true spirit of Toronto. I did a call-out on social media asking what people think of when they hear the word “Toronto”. The design began with the CN tower, where I added “roots” to show how Toronto is home to so many of us - most especially immigrants and newcomers, like my parents, who settled in Toronto to plant “new roots”. A chance at a new life. This part of the overall design was the most personal design choice close to my heart and family.
NOTABLE MEDIA FEATURES: Featured on DAZN Women’s Football (@daznwomensfootball); Fashion Meets Football (@fmfhq); Darby Magazine; several media outlets in Italy and the UK. During the inaugural AFC Toronto game, several investors and founders of the NSL mentioned that it is “the talk of the town” especially in the UK.
NOTABLE ATHLETES: It’s a jersey. The entire team wears it :”)
